EAGLES OPEN SEASON WITH ROAD WIN–64-46, Dec. 3

The varsity basketball team started off the 2013-14 season with a definitive road victory over Yosemite High School, Dec. 3. The Eagles were coming off of a 12-13 season, whereas the Badgers endured a 2-22 run last year.

The Eagles got off to a strong start, leading at the end of the first, second, and third quarters. They finally finished off the Badgers, despite missing senior guard N’Gai Jones, with a score of 64-46.

Head coach Robert Hubbard took the game as a step in the right direction, but sees much room for improvement.

“I thought for the first game we played ok, but there’s a lot of things to improve on, especially on the defensive end,” Hubbard said. “We need to stop reaching on defense and use our feet, we definitely have got to rebound, we definitely need to attack the basketball. We have to be smarter and be more aggressive.”

Senior guard Brian Scott, who scored 18 points in the contest, felt that the game was a good starting point, and looks forward to the improvement of the team.

“It could have been better,” said Scott. “It was a learning experience, I liked it though. I’m looking forward to practice tomorrow, honestly. To get a look at some film, get better. We’ll worry about Woodlake after that.”

Junior Trevor Beal led the team in scoring Tuesday, putting up 23 points.
