The Eagles
Thursday, March 7 – FC 223, Reedley 275
Cliff 40, Borrego 44, Grossman 44, Saylor 46, Culver 49, Kim 54

The Eagles played their third match of the year against Reedley High School, March 7. Sherwood Forest Golf Course would be the location where FC would grab their first win of the season, posting scores of 40, 44, 44, 46, and 49, for a total of 223. This score proved to be more than enough to overcome the 275-stroke effort of Reedley.

Coach Jeff Hopper was impressed by the effort of Sophomore Daniel Cliff and how he used strategy to overcome the difficulties of the course.

“A really nice day for Daniel, with a birdie at the third to balance against his bogeys” Hopper said. “He had nothing worse than bogey, and that?s the way to turn in a 40. That?s not an easy score for a big hitter on the tight fairways at Sherwood Forest, but he kept the driver under control and got out of trouble well when he found himself under the trees.”

Though the Eagles won handily, Hopper believes that the team did not play to their full potential.

“We keep working to eliminate 3-putts, but we?ve got a ways to go,” said Hopper. “If we can cut out these nasty stroke-wasters, we?ll stand a good chance of reaching our target of 210-215 for nine holes.”

The Eagles will next play Kingsburg High School, March 12.
